Escape

It was very cold.
Alex sat back on his heels beside the still, frozen figure, pulling his hand away and wiping it on his coat with disgust.
He was not surprised that the Thing had frozen to death.  Not only was It completely unsheltered from the weather, but they had neglected It lately, giving It only the scraps that they couldn’t eat themselves, because there wasn’t enough food as it was.
